On the afternoon of December 12th, Ma Xin, a member of the school party committee and vice president, went to the School of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science to inspect and guide the work. Members of the party and government leadership team of the School of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science participated in the discussion.

Associate Dean (in charge of work) Fang Wei of the School of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science reported on the basic situation of the school, faculty, discipline construction, teaching and research, talent cultivation, international exchanges, and other aspects. He also focused on analyzing the deficiencies, reasons, and countermeasures in the construction of faculty and the quality of talent cultivation in the school.

President Ma praised the School of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science for continuously uniting and making progress since its establishment, achieving significant development in teaching and research, and obtaining a series of landmark achievements in graduate scale, discipline platform, research volume, and high-intensity projects. President Ma pointed out that "artificial intelligence" is one of the three major directions for the country to vigorously solve key problems and is both a national strategic requirement and a period of development opportunity. As a school named after "artificial intelligence," it should continually develop and enhance the level of discipline construction and the quality of talent cultivation in response to national strategies. It should focus on four key areas:

First, strengthen coordination between the school and local areas. Wuxi City has many high-level research institutions, and the artificial intelligence and electronic information industries are well developed, with many strong leading enterprises. By using party-building cooperation as a traction and leveraging the mechanism of joint construction between the city and the school, the school should strengthen coordination and industry-university-research cooperation with local enterprises, research institutions, and government departments. It can explore dual employment, management, and utilization of high-level engineering talents in both enterprises and schools, achieving the "three-way collaboration" in talent cultivation, faculty strength, and research projects between the school and enterprises.

Second, enhance internal coordination within the school. Artificial intelligence has a strong instrumental characteristic and needs to find application scenarios to truly land. The school has achieved landmark results in "artificial intelligence + food," joint graduate training in "artificial intelligence + biology," and technology transformation in "artificial intelligence + medicine." It should actively expand cooperation with the three A+ disciplines, two first-class disciplines, and one medical discipline within the school. Especially in the process of building the "Engineering Research Center for Health Care Intelligent Technology," it should connect A+ disciplines to enhance research capabilities and levels, and connect hospitals and other medical institutions to identify health care needs and implement intelligent technology.

Third, further strengthen talent introduction and cultivation. Talent is a decisive factor in the development of the school and discipline. Efforts should be made to enhance the construction of the faculty team, especially nurturing young teachers according to high goals and requirements. Furthermore, efforts should be intensified in introducing high-level and young talents. Recruiting and lecturing at major universities, contacting industry-renowned experts for recommendations, inviting current teachers' mentors for recommendations, holding high-level academic conferences to attract talent, actively recruiting talent overseas, and flexibly introducing industrial professors from leading companies.

Fourth, further strengthen graduate education. General Secretary Xi Jinping attaches great importance to graduate education. It is necessary to adhere to the fundamental task of cultivating morality and promoting the harmonious development of graduate education scale and connotation. It is essential to actively respond to the spirit of the just-concluded "Symposium on Promoting the Reform of Graduate Education in the New Era," actively respond to industrial demands, connect with local leading enterprises, explore new paths and methods for jointly cultivating high-quality innovative talents, boldly innovate in enrollment indicators and training models, actively cross-train graduate students with dual first-class disciplines, and jointly train graduate students with enterprises. It is necessary to strengthen the process management of graduate education to ensure the quality of graduate education.
